The Knossos Theater was founded in 1978 by Christos and Lambros Tsagas under the name “Palkoseniko”. In 1980 it operated as a Semi – National Theater of Sterea Hellas based in Lamia and made tours throughout the continental and island Greece. In 1986 it was permanently housed in the Knossos Theater – a theater of 500 seats – and since then it has been operating constantly and with many tours in Greece and abroad (America, Russia, Indonesia, France, etc.). In 1987 with collaborators: G. Tsarouchis, N. Koundouros, V. Fotopoulos, K. Sfetsas, we attempted and implemented a “theater for children and adolescents”, with performances by pupils and teachers. The audience surpassed 500,000 persons. In 2001, alongside the other activities, we successfully engaged and presented the Black Theater. In 2005, in cooperation with A. Sinodinou, we presented Modern Greek theater. In 2006-2007, in a rare collaboration with P. Brook and S. Kouwayte, we presented “THE COSTUME”, directed by P. Brook, in another stage. In 2008-2009, in collaboration with K. Georgousopoulos, we performed a production on the theme: “THE GENERATION GAP”, which relied on 14 classic texts, from Aeschylus to the Modern Greek theater. In 2014, we presented a theatrical performance on Kavafi’s historical poetry titled “The Hypnosis of ALEXANDRIA”, projecting Greek Culture (using animation), giving over the poetry the architectural image of Hellenic Culture, from the foundation of Alexandria to the present day. The show due to its particularity was presented successfully at the Athens concert Hall. In 2019 we presented the “AUTUMN STORY” by Alexey Arbuzov, directed by Mania Papadimitriou and music by Stamatis Kraounakis.
We have presented 80 theater productions with works of Ancient Drama, Modern Greek and Foreign repertoire, with at least 20 co-productions and have collaborated with more than 800 artists, actors, directors, writers, musicians and others.
